Science 10 Bell Ringers

Science 10 Bell Ringers

Oct 23rd: Define Chemistry. Give an example of chemistry in your day-to-day life.
Oct. 24th: Name some properties you would use to explain the difference between a ham sandwich and a banana. Try to think of properties that you could use to explain the difference between any ham sandwich and any banana.
Oct 25th: Write a theory as to what is meant by the following quote:
  • " Science is built up with facts as a house is with stone. But a collection of facts is no more science than a heap of stones is a house."
Oct. 26th: What is something you worked on this week that you were proud of? Explain why this made you proud.
Oct. 29th: Explain in detail how to find the protons, neutrons, and electrons of an atom. Hint: The first step should include the periodic table.
Oct. 30th: What would be the better class field trip, visiting a glacier or a volcano? Why?
October 31st: Topic: Imagine you are a scientist working on the cure to the zombie apocalypse. You and your team finally develop a cure, but now you must transport the it from your lab to the Center for Disease Control for mass distribution. The problem: zombies are already walking the earth. What do you do? How do you get the cure in the right hands before it’s too late? Do you survive? Write a short journal entry of your plan or zombie encounter.

Nov. 1st: Write the nuclear symbol form for the following atoms or ions:
  A.  4 p+, 5 n, 2 e-  ___________
  B.  17p+, 18n, 17e-  ___________
  C.  13p+, 14n, 10e-  ___________

Nov. 2nd:  Which of the following are most likely to lose electrons? How many?
N
Al
S

Oct. 18: Which is more important, the heart or the brain?

Oct 19th: Did you know? The X-rays were discovered by accident in 1815. Only months after they ee used to diagnose patients. Can you think of other medical inventions that help diagnose patients?

Oct 22nd: Define anatomy. Then create a list of 5 potential jobs that students of anatomy can obtain. Which of these appeals the most to you?

Oct. 23rd: Can the brain be “rewired?”

Oct 24th: List all of the parts of the brain involved in the following activities:

-          Running

-          Reading while eating a sandwich

-          Listening to music while walking and throwing a ball straight up in the air and catching it.
